Comparative Study of Two Thoracic Radiotherapy Schedules for Palliation of Symptom, Radiological Response and Acute Toxicities in Advanced Non-small Cell Lung Cancer

Aim: To compare the effect of two RT schedules for thoracic palliation in advanced NSCLC patients (30 Gy 10 fractions over weeks and 27 6 three weeks, 2 per week) on pulmonary symptoms, radiological response primary tumour, functions acute toxicities. Material method: A hospital based quantitative prospective follow-up study. Total 104 were randomized into fractionation arms. Evaluation was done pretreatment 4 after end RT. Symptoms to & radiation pneumonitis assessed by using RTOG 4-point scale Revised (RECIST) guideline version 1.1 respectively. Radiotherapy given Cobalt-60 teletherapy machine. Results: 96 evaluated symptom palliation, The percentage achieving slightly higher control arm. At 1st month follow-up, 16.67% 18.75% Study arm showed PR. Post-RT mean FVC FEV1 a tendency improvement both baseline. Treatment well tolerated Grade I nausea vomiting developed 43% 37.5% Control Arm 58% 39% 1 as cough dyspnea study arms patient at 3rd week but they lost follow up. Around 31% Grade1 esophagitis dysphagia which reduced up 7% 2nd week. very few grade1 skin reaction dermatitis treatment. difference response, toxicities not statistically significant. Conclusion: equal efficacy terms symptoms tumor, Thus Gy/6 appears preferable compared 30 Gy/10 minimize patients’ visits load machines.
